Growing Readers

Developing Readers

Students are placed in small groups based on skill level. With no more than 5 students per group, each child receives targeted instruction, guided practice, and encouragement in a comfortable learning environment. In a smaller setting, children have more opportunities to participate, practice skills, ask questions, and build confidence.

Did you know that many students lose 20% of the reading progress they made during the school year over summer break? Teachers call this the summer slide. When children do not read over the summer, those gaps can grow over time, making it harder to start the new school year with confidence.

Library programs and reading incentives can be wonderful for children who already enjoy reading. But for students who find reading difficult, a prize or coupon is often not enough to keep them practicing consistently or to help them continue building skills.

That’s why I created the Summer Reading Club. This small-group program provides targeted reading instruction to help students maintain skills, fill in gaps, and build confidence. Students receive supportive guidance, structured practice, and encouragement to keep reading throughout the summer.

Optional weekly reading logs may also be used for families who want extra accountability at home. Whether your child needs continued practice, added support, or simply a structured way to stay engaged with reading, Summer Reading Club helps make summer learning feel encouraging and manageable.
